Three of my very best friends graduated this December while I was home, which thankfully meant I was able to attend their graduation parties. I stuffed myself silly with the most delicious mexican food.. seriously I think I had three tamales smothered in the delicious quesoy goodness their dad made. I only wish I had left room for food at the adorable Irish pub, where Tamara had her party.

We used to spend Christmas eve with my dad's side of the family. But as the cousins started to get married, the holidays became a little more complicated. And so we ended up getting together the weekend before. Because of work and living in Georgia I have missed the party the last two years, so I was really excited to see everyone.

Just like the other party, each family brings a gift for the exchange game. There are always a couple gifts that everyone wants, and couple that are completely ridiculous. My favorite was the black hair products complete with a doo rag, that my dad received. The box of Bieber stuff was a close second.

Last friday we had our annual Christmas party with all of the neighbors from our old neighborhood. We have all since moved, but still get together. Years ago when money got tight for everyone, we decided to do an ornament exchange. Each family would bring an ornament to exchange and the opening and stealing would begin.

It evolved into ornaments for the adults, and $5 gift cards for the kids. Then the adults decided to add wine to the mix, and once all the kids turned 21 things got really crazy. I don't drink, but it is still fun to see everyone get so intense and fight over bottles of alcohol.

My parents ended up with a bottle of wine, and my brother got some Tennessee moonshine. Which by the way will make your nose burn for full minute. How anyone could drink it is beyond me.

One of the best things about the holiday season is the excuse to bake and bake and bake some more. I love giving and receiving wonderful plates of goodies. For example: every year I look forward to the carmel and chocolate dipped pretzel sticks from your neighbors next door.

Anyway, my first couple days in Colorado were spent at home, since I no longer have a car here and everyone else had to work. How rude! :) Anyway it gave me time to make some Christmas treats to bring to our holiday parties.

That is the delicious drink I ordered at Starbucks tonight. Low fat too-- ok maybe not, but I am going to pretend it was to make myself feel better.

Tonight my parents took my friends and I out to dinner to celebrate their graduations. We went to one of my favorite places to eat here in Arvada. And on a cold winters night, it is the most cozy and delightful place. love it. After dinner we decided to go get Blue Bell ice cream.... but after walking in the cold to our car we decided hot chocolate sounded much better.

Life has thrown me some pretty nasty curve balls this past week, so it was nice to be with wonderful friends, catch up on much needed girl talk, and forget about the impending doom that is my life.

I want these lights in my someday house.

Today I am off to spend the rest of this holiday season at home. I can't wait to smell the wintery mountain air, play in the snow, and spend lots a lots of time with my family and friends. I love Christmas in Colorado, but I have to admit the best place to enjoy the season is Europe-- specifically Aix-en-Provence.

At the time I was pretty homesick and ready to see my family and fiancé after a semester in France. But even that could stop the magic that was all around me. The Christmas market, the olive oil festival, hand painted santons, street vendors literally roasting chestnuts, singing carols en français at church. At the time all I could think about was being home, but now I would give anything to go back to that wonderful moment. Someday.... that's what I keep telling myself.

Autumn and winter are my favorite times of the year, and one of the things that I love most are the foods that are in season. Pumpkins, pomegranates, pears, winter squash, warm ciders, cinnamon, cloves, eggnog..... happiness. Anyway I made a super simple and delicious meal the other night full of some of my favorite flavors, and I thought I would share.

Butternut Squash pasta in a sage & butter sauce, topped with shredded parmesan cheese.

Trader Joe's is by far the best thing about living in Georgia. Everything they make is delicious and affordable. The chocolate covered pomegranate seeds, spiced cider, mochi, sweet potato gnocchi....I digress. Last time I shopped, I picked up their jalapeno chicken burgers. And on top of a brioche bun, with pepper jack cheese, avocado, and some mango salsa.... easy and delicious.

For Thanksgiving, I was assigned a sweet potato casserole and a pie. Instead of pie I decided to make mini cinnamon cheesecakes with a pumpkin pie frosting. I also made these delicious little things, but instead I used the Pilsbury Pumpkin bread mix and Ghiradelli white and milk chocolate chips. I recommend both, however, the cake balls are much faster and easier than the cheesecakes. Except for the last batch, most of my cakes sunk in the middle--thank goodness for mistake covering frosting!

My sister-in-law and I had recieved tickets to the Georgia Aquarium ages ago. We had joked at the time that we would go on a double date as soon as she turned 16. Over the Thanksgiving holiday we decided to finally go on that date. The aquarium was awesome, although I wish our tickets had included the dolphin show... but the tickets were free so I can't really complain. I couldn't believe the size of the sharks and manta rays! My favorite though was the Arctic exhibit where the otters, penguins and Beluga whales live. But the best part of the day was getting to see my little sister all twitter-patted.

We haven't technically adopted out foster dog Sally, but I don't think she is going anywhere. We've grown too attached to our little furry foot warmer- which is what I call her since her favorite place to sleep is under the covers on out feet. Over thanksgiving weekend I decided to embellish a coat that I had found in Target's dollar bin. I also bought a pretty gold collar half off on black Friday--which I added a bright pink flower too. Isn't she the cutest? I can't wait for her to meet he big brother Chubbs (who is being held hostage by his grandparents in CO ;)

Saturday was kind of a bleh day. I slept in later than I would have liked, due to a late shift the night before, husband and I were having an off day, and I was feeling ugly. Oh, and the picture message from my mom of the winter wonderland that was missing didn't help either.

Thankfully there just happened to be a Harry Potter martathon on tv, which never fails to make me happy! So I lit a winter candle, pulled out my crafting supplies, and curled up the my puppy. The Christmas cookie and Pumpkin Spice Blue Bell ice didn't hurt either.

Inspired by this. I thought about making one of Colorado and instead decided to use Ireland since that is where Michael popped the question.

I am completely obsessed. I can't help it, it's Harry Potter, and there has been a two day matathon on abc family. So whilst watching the 6th movie I decided to search on pinterest for HP things.

I love my bed.. it is the most comfortable thing ever. Even without the wonderful down mattress bad my parents bought for me, but that husband hates. Any way I have been dying to buy a duvet covers for it for over a year now. The problem is that stores want a ridiculous amount of money for both. But thanks to the wonders of ikea and a friend who let me borrow her sewing machine, I was able to find a reasonably priced duvet and make some pillows. I am pretty excited about how it all turned out.

Did you know that Atlanta has 32 streets with the name Peachtree, and do you know how confusing that is? And in my year of living here, the only Peachtree I have seen is in my backyard in Colorado. But I digress... If you are ever in Atlanta you must eat at the Sundial restaurant at the Westin Hotel. The top rotates, and the meal is timed just right so that you get a full view of the city. And the food was delicious! Menu is a little pricey, but if you go for lunch or maybe just dessert it is reasonable.

I have worked events at the World of Coke, but have never actually toured the museum. So my parents coming to visit was the perfect excuse. It was actually a lot of fun and you leave there thinking Coke= complete and utter happiness... so I guess their advertising works. The highlight for me was getting to hold a real Olympic torch, and getting a picture with the adorable bear! Oh and if you go, get ready for a sugar high like Halloween, because the tour concludes in a tasting room full of all the products from around the world. My favorite- Bitter Lemon from England.

The one thing my parents wanted to do in Georgia, was to see husband's grandparent's lakehouse. Unfortunately, even though the temperature outside was still in the 70's, the water temp had cooled quite a bit since the end of summer. Fortunately, we could still take the boat out, and the leaves were just starting to change which made our trip out on the lake quite lovely. Autumn in Georgia really is fantastic... if only we could get rid of the horridly hot and buggy summer. But I'll take this lovely season as a trade off I suppose. xoxo

Number one, you have to say Appalachians all hillbilly like... you know by pronouncing the "ch". Who knew I was saying it wrong all of these years. ;) Anyway... my wonderful and awesome parents finally came out to visit me here in Ole Georgia. It was a whirlwind trip of two days so I had to cram everything I could in that time.

We spent a whole day wandering the streets of Kona and shopping for the perfect souvenirs. I bought an authentic hula skirt and the most perfect Scarlett O'hara-esque sun hat. Kona also has a farmers market that is wonderful for finding inexpensive things and the most amazing fruit. Oh how I dream about that fruit....

No Hawaiian vacation is complete without a luau. Compared to the Polynesian Cultural Center it was not as authentic, but still fun and the dancers are amazingly talented. There was food, games, and hulu lessons. Emma and I even performed what learned on stage! And they totally lost on the whole kids eat free thing with Emma :)

Seeing the lava fields of Kilauea was unlike anything I had ever seen. The craziest thing is that people build houses--well more like shacks on the lava-- and just hope that the next flow doesn't hit them. But the best part of the experience was going to the top and seeing the glow of the lava and hearing the chants to Pele the volcano goddess.

I have never been a coffee drinker. But I would highly recommend visiting a coffee plantation if you are ever visit the Big Island. I learned so much about coffee and specifically the Kona variety. The tour is free and rainforest where the coffee is grown is gorgeous! Our tour guide was actually the owner, and very passionate about what she does. It was fascinating! And for those of you who are coffee connoisseurs, Kona is the only place where you can get the best and actually 100% Kona coffee. (They save the best beans to sell at their plantations.) So stock up if you go!

The drive to Hilo

Hilo is on the east side of Hawai'i and much different from the Kona side. It is amazing how much the climate and landscape can change in just an hours drive. Hilo is a lot rainier and more like a rainforest. And it did in fact rain, but luckily it held off until after our hike to the waterfalls.

The Hotel we stayed in on the Big Island was beyond amazing. I doubt I will ever get to stay in such a nice place again, so I soaked up every minute I could. We stayed in the hotel one night and spent the rest of the time in one of their condos.

The hotel has its own restaurants, plenty of gorgeous pools, a snorkeling lagoon, dolphins. Oh and to get around you can take the tram or little boats! I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I kept wishing I could have my own disney show about my life in the hotel. Just need to find a twin....

So if you are ever on Hawai'i, I highly recommend staying at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. There are a number of other hotels in the area, a shopping center, grocery store, and restaurants. It is also about a 30 min drive from the city of Kona.

Polynesians are the most beautiful people in the world period. And I would give anything to have that gorgeous Hawaiian skin tone. Anyway... The Polynesian Cultural Center was beyond amazing, and the evening show Ha, could rival anything seen on broadway (not that I have seen a show on broadway, but it was pretty fantastic). So obviously, I highly recommend it. I just loved how authentic everything was, which I felt gave me a better understanding of the people and cultures of each country. All of the employees are students from each country who are working as a way to pay for their college education. So all of they money us tourists spend their, goes to help pay for someone's tuition.... and as someone who is currently paying off student loans, I respect organizations like that.

P.S. I also have a great respect and for people who can not only shake their Tahitian hips like that, but who can also do it on a moving canoe. wow.

I dream about Dole Whips.

That right there friends is a Dole Whip aka. delicious soft serve pineapple ice cream. Completely worth the $4. I have dreams about its deliciousness. Unfortunately, I might never be at the Dole Plantation again to taste its sweetness. Oh well, at least I now know how pineapples grow, I really had never thought about it before then. Kind of cool though! Also if you ever find yourself there, try the fresh pineapple with li hing powder. It was yummy and I regret not buying any to bring home.

Temples and Sundays

So today I am laying in bed, sure I am going to die at any moment. Ok ok I just have a cold, but it is a killer one. I want this day to be over so that I will be one day closer to being better. Do you ever feel that way when you are sick? Anyway husband was nice enough to teach my primary class for me, so that I could stay in bed and watch the Disney Channel. I would be a mess without that sweet boy.

Anyway....

My family was nice enough to visit the Laie Temple with me during our stay on Oahu. I told them I didn't mind going by myself because I never want them to feel like I would try to convert them. But they wanted to see it too, and I really loved being there with them. Isn't is gorgeous?! You can even see the beautiful ocean from the top of it. I want to go back there again someday. Hopefully with Michael.

Ships and Pearls.

My great grandfather on my father's side served in Pearl Harbour during WWII (the pearls I wore on wedding day were the ones he brought home to his wife.) Anyway, my grandmother has always dreamed of going to Hawaii to see the place where her father had been. So about a year ago my dad started planning a girls trip for her to go. His mom along with my mom, her mom, two of my dad's sisters, my cousin and her daughter all ended up going. Originally I wasn't going to get to go, but my parents had some extra miles and room in the hotel. score!

While I was home I was lucky enough to see my lovely friend Sonya before she flew away to Paris. We have been bffs since we were wee little second graders, and I love her more than anything. Growing up a shy little book worm, she was probably the only person other than my family who I could open up to.

We spent the afternoon in Morrison and Red Rocks, just walking, talking, and being serenaded by a creepy hippie dude. Apparently we are hot stuff. Thank goodness we had my vicious guard dog Chubbs with us. ;)

I soaked up all the cool crisp mountain air I could, along with that beautiful Colorado sunshine before we parted ways. I hate goodbyes, but hopefully the next time I see my friend will be when Michael and I move to France too..... I can dream right?

P.S. Red Rocks in a natural amphitheater and is a must see when visiting CO. People go up there not only for concerts, but also to hike, work out, and enjoy the view. Those seats are better than any stair master I promise!

Even though Jenni ran away to Australia, the four of us who are left still go over to her house. It is our happy place, our second home, and Mama Tolman always spoils us rotten. And when she found out that I was coming home for a few days, she decided to throw us all an un-Birthday party! We stuffed ourselves with candy, burgers, cake, and even opened presents. It was also decided that I needed to be checked into sugar rehab-- I've admitted that I have a problem and that's the first step right? Anyway.... after food and gifts we watched Anges, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging--which was awesome, and then we all skyped Jenni! It was like we were all together again.

I couldn't have asked for a more perfect night. Husbands are cool, but there really is nothing better than girl time.

Wishing on coins really works

I was lucky enough to come back to Colorado for the wedding of my college roommate. First, you all have to read their love story. It will make you believe in fate and fairytales. Then you can admire her dress and wish it were yours.

....Anyway, Nichole and David had a beautiful Catholic ceremony at the Air Force Academy (which I wish I could have taken photos of) with an equally gorgeous reception to follow. The highlight was probably the father of the bride's speech, in which he instructed the groom to watch and study Beauty and the Beast when the marriage hits bumpy parts. And the choreographed father-daughter dance was pretty awesome too.

I just love being at weddings and feeling the love and excitement all around!

The French fry's identity crisis.

So apparently french fries are actually Belgian. Who knew? Anyway there is this adorable little Belgian Frites shop that just opened up in Olde Town Arvada. My sweet mother took my friend and I there yesterday after shopping for a wedding gift at my favorite spice store. If anyone is ever in Colorado I highly recommend stopping in Olde Town for some lunch and a little bit of shopping.

P.S. Being able to sit outside and enjoy our fries was pretty much the most glorious thing ever. Oh how I have missed the dry mountain air....

Garden Fairies

Living far away has made me realize just how much I took for granted while living at home. For example, taking hot showers because you can afford to have the water heater turned up higher than pilot, or pantries with food. But I would have to say one of the biggest things I missed this summer was my mom's vegetable garden. There really is nothing better than a freshly picked tomato or cucumber.

P.S. Our neighbor down the street grows GIANT pumpkin... like 1,000 lbs ones. You may have seen him on an episode of the Marriage Ref. Anyway, this year pumpkins have started popping up in everyones yards. If asked, he denies it, but we all know where they came from. I love it!

There is really no feeling like being home. Right now I am in my room cuddling with my puppy with my window open to let in the cool crisp air. The only thing that could make this moment perfect was if husband was here with me, and not still stuck in peachtown.

I am going to miss him terribly the next couple of weeks, but I plan on soaking up every ounce of colorado-y goodness while I am here. Agenda for tomorrow, hanging out with three of my favorite girls in the whole wide world, along with the mother of our long lost Jenni who ran away to Australia. It is going to be fabulous. (minus the missing friend part.)

Baby shoes make me happy.

So for the past month I have been keeping in the coolest secret-- sworn to secrecy (I was so good I didn't even tell Michael). But today My lovely friend Monique and her husband Clark finally announced the big news. They are having a baby! I am so excited for the two of them and can't wait to see their new addition next spring. They are also moving to Oahu, Hawaii in a couple of weeks-- so if anyone over there is looking for an awesome wedding videographer or just some really cool friends, you should look them up ;) They are just bursting with so much artsiness and creativity its disgusting--in a good way. But seriously if you don't believe me watch this adorable video they made to share their surprise. I hope they don't mind, this was just too good not to share.

tv dinner

I am leaving for Colorado in a few days, and although I am beyond excited to go home for a little while, I am going to miss Michael.
We are both busy with work and school everyday before I leave, so he promised me a date before I left. We decided to try Little Azio because I had a scoutmob coupon for it. It was delicious and we will definitely be going back. And thanks to our 50% we were able to "splurge" and get pasta, pizza, and some bruschetta!

Only in America would we have personal televisions at each table. It was kind of awesome though. I made husband turn it off though so that we could spend "quality" time together :)

I think Bruschetta is one of those simple joys in life. lol

Grey skies

I hope I am not speaking too soon, but I think autumn has finally arrived her in Georgia. And never have I been happier for it. It arrived around dinner time on Sunday just as we were heading up to husband's aunt and uncle's home to spend Labor Day out on the lake-- only to find out that there was 100% chance of rain. So instead we spent the day inside cooking, eating, baking, eating some more. Oh and not hiding from the tornado that we were completely oblivious too. (We found out later that most of the neighborhood lost power, and that Michael, his sister, cousin, and puppies were all playing in the rain during the whole thing!)

Anyway, one of my favorite things in the world is a rainy (or snowy) day. And I cannot begin to express my happiness to see the heat and humidity--and cockroaches-- go away! If I could just hibernate from about February-September I would be a happy girl. I could be a kind of reverse bear if you will. hehe Is anyone else excited to wear cute warm clothes and eat everything pumpkin flavored? Because I sure am!

I have seen these all over pinterest as well as at a friend's apartment. Today I finally got around to trying it, thanks to husband's cousin who bought all of the supplies. And friends it was awesome! We have big plans for lots of color combinations and canvas sizes. I want one of all blues.

I also learned how to pose for pictures from my 16 year old sister in law.

Apparently this is the way the popular girls do it.

I also learned that this dress makes me 8 months pregnant.

Which is just lovely.

So there is this family at our church who is basically perfect. The live in the prettiest house I have ever been in, have three beyond gorgeous children, are unbelievably talented, and they are the sweetest most giving people ever. Prime example: they have allowed their home to be the venue for countless wedding receptions, young single adult parties, morning seminary etc.

Last Saturday the mom of the house hosted a baby shower for another adorable woman in our ward. She just happens to have an amazing gift for party planning. I have always longed for sexy skinny legs. I did gymnastics growing up, which made me super self-conscious of my big muscular legs. And now they just seem big. So that along with my big hips and booty, make wearing shorts an awful experience. And then I became Mormon, which meant I now had to also find "modest" shorts. And friends, me + long shorts= hobbit/elf/dwarf.

As much as I would love to just wear dresses everywhere, sometimes you just can't. And pants in this heat is not going to happen. So last week I ventured out, on a mission to find a pair of bermuda shorts. On my first trip to the mall I came home with a couple of mediocre options to show husband. On the second trip I returned some and bought a few more to show husband, and finally on the third trip I returned everything and finally found a pair on sale at Abercrombie.

I am still not loving my big hips, but for what I had to work with I think they are the closet I can get to success. Maybe with some more zumba, I can't get to a happy legs place :)

Are you feeling like you have already seen these photos before? It is because you have... sort of. Husband and I are in love with Flying Biscuit. And after what seemed to be a 100 hour work week, we decided that we deserved a date out.

We both always order the same thing. Him the "Egg-Stravaganza...Two large farm fresh eggs served with our chicken sausage, crisp turkey bacon, oven-roasted “moon dusted” potatoes, plus a biscuit with homemade cranberry apple butter" and me, the "Orange Scented French Toast...Thick sliced whole wheat bread topped with raspberry sauce and honey crème anglaise."

Drooling yet? I know I am. I mean c'mon any breakfast made with "magical moon dust" or "forbidden fruit" must be delicious.

The dog days of summer.

So most people have to train their dog not to jump on furniture. With our foster dog Sally we have to do the opposite. She came to us so scared and afraid, and she usually hides under the bed. She has warmed up a lot in the time we have had her, but we want more for her. We want her to trust again and feel love again. Which is why we have been trying to teach her to just come out and relax. It seems to be helping-- now she just jumps up, rolls over, and begs for tummy rubs from Michael. Those two are pretty adorable. If he is this way with a dog, I can't wait to see him with our future babies!

Old friends can become new friends.

So back when I was a little girl I had two best friends, Jessica and Katie. Our moms' just happened to be besties too, which was awesome because we were always going places together. Our families even got together every December to make Christmas sweatshirts that involved the use of sponges and lots of puffy fabric paint-- They were sexy as I am sure you can imagine. Oh 90's fashion- bless its little heart.

Anyway, one sad day just as were were all getting ready to start kindergarden, our dear friend Katie and her family of four packed up and moved to Phoenix. I was heartbroken. We saw them a couple of times over the years--mostly when traveling for my brother's baseball tournaments-- but that was about it.

Then an amazing thing happened. A couple of weeks ago Katie moved to Atlanta to start grad school! I am so excited to have a friend here, and we have big plans to explore the city together! And yesterday Kate decided to ride the marta train up to our little suberb. We took her to Downtown Norcross, and then to Menchies (because I am addicted to froyo right now). It was fantastic!

“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.” So said St Catherine of Siena whose festival day it is today. Marriage is intended to be a way in which man and woman help each other to become what God meant each one to be, their deepest and truest selves.
Many are full of fear for the future of the prospects of our world but the message of the celebrations in this country and far beyond its shores is the right one – this is a joyful day! It is good that people in every continent are able to share in these celebrations because this is, as every wedding day should be, a day of hope.
In a sense every wedding is a royal wedding with the bride and the groom as king and queen of creation, making a new life together so that life can flow through them into the future.
William and Catherine, you have chosen to be married in the sight of a generous God who so loved the world that he gave himself to us in the person of Jesus Christ.
And in the Spirit of this generous God, husband and wife are to give themselves to each another.
A spiritual life grows as love finds its centre beyond ourselves. So these pictures are like a week late... but I was super busy working this week. Anyway last weekend was Pioneer Day in the Mormon world. The holiday was created to honor the saints who were forced to move west due to religious persecution. In my four years as a member of the church, this was the first time I celebrated. I don't really know why, I usually celebrate every holiday I can. This year our ward had a pancake breakfast that included period costumes, games, and a delicious breakfast... seriously can you think of anything better? Last weekend I had the opportunity to attend a wedding for someone Michael grew up with. Unfortunately he had to work, so I went in his place and ate double the cake. haha I wish. The couple was married in the Atlanta Temple in the morning and then had a lovely reception in the groom's parent's backyard that evening. I loved the simple beauty of the decor and food. If I could do it over again I would make friends with someone who has a gorgeous home and yard, and have my reception there. :)

I came across this fair trade clothing brand today, and I am basically in love. I especially like the pieces designed by Emma Watson. To be honest I haven't really ever thought about what buying fair trade clothing means. After watching the videos on the site I think I will try to be more conscious about the items that I buy.

I am definitely not a little hippie who buys only local and organic--I wish I were that good--but still not having an abundance of money has made me more aware of the things I purchase. I firmly believe that less of a good thing is far better than more of a cheaper or not as good thing. I think this is true for clothing, food, activities and so on.

A silly but good example to sum it all up: I would rather have a small pint of Haggan daz than buy one of those gallon tubs of what is basically fake ice cream.

So last night I was invited to Potterpallooza by my wonderful friend Monique. I love Harry Potter and I love costumes parties, so I was pretty excited to attend. Since my graduation robe is in my closet back home I had to settle for my ~~University of Denver~~ Gryffindor scarf--which I wore in the sweltering Georgia heat.

We had a lot of fun eating/drinking HP themed treats like Beartie Botts Every Flavor Beans, a golden snitch cake, and some butter beer! They even invited Hedwig, the house ~~bunny~~ owl, to come to the party. It was pretty awesome, just like this amazing video Monique made to document the night. Her husband basically rocks at making videos too. You should check them out.

If you are ever in Savannah Georgia I definitely recommend taking a trip to Tybee Island. It was such a cute little beach town. My one travel tip: bring sunscreen and lots of water because it is beyond hot. I literally thought I was being drowned by the humidity and melted by the sun. But despite the heat we still managed to have a fun day by the sea. That night however.... well let's just say husband had this goal to get "tan and sexy," but was a little bit too motivated to reach it. Thank goodness for aloe vera!

Probably because I am nowhere near that age, and therefore I can look back at that awkward time in my life with fondness. I do however still look 16 (which really confuses people when they find out I am married), most of the time I still act 16, and my best friend here in georgia is actually 16, so in a way I am 16. Makes sense right? I think so.

So the point of all that craziness is to announce that above bff and sister-in-law celebrated her Sweet 16 this weekend! And in mormon terms that means she hot, single, and ready to mingle... in a clean g-rated kind of way of course.

We celebrated her coming of age with a mature unicorn themed party. I told her to enjoy this day, because unless you are a Kate Middleton or under the age of 8 there are sadly only 3 socially acceptable times to wear a tiara: 16th birthday, 21st birthday, and bachelorette party... and maybe a 4th if you wear one on your wedding day.

I had every intention of posting yesterday, but then work took over. And by the time I got home at 1am from the wedding I worked, it was time for bed-- because I was not only tired, but I had to be back up at 5:30 to work another wedding. (I was so tired that I got lost and ended up on a one way road-- good thing it was 6:30am so no one was on the road, and there was a nice police officer who helped me turn around and find my way!) My brain doesn't function before 8. :)

Turns out Indians really know how to party. This whole day and night affair came complete with a parade of elephants through downtown Atlanta. Unfortunately I was setting tables so I could not join in on the dancing and wild animal parading. Fortunately my manager took pity on my exhausted little 4 hours of sleep self, and let me leave a bit early. As much as I wanted to see the crazy shindig all the way through, my body was not going to have it. Same goes with my posting abilities today. So I leave you with this song that seems all too fitting for the state my brain and body is in at this moment.

A trip back in time.

That is how I felt in Savannah this weekend. Husband and I wandered around the cobble stoned streets talking about how we were meant to live in a different time. Although I have no idea how women survived in corsets and big dresses--It was over 100 degrees and humid--a big sun hat and fan can only do so much. I must admit that I would ~~probably~~ definitely die without air conditioning, although this does not stop my dreaming of parlor sitting in a hoop skirted gown.

How did our little trip come about you ask? Well Husband and I really wanted to go somewhere for our anniversary since we have yet to go on a honeymoon. We decided that Savannah was the coolest place we could go with our small budget. So on Sunday morning we woke up and drove to the coast. I fell in love. I feel like I finally found the south everyone talks about--full of hospitality and charm. Plus it is a beautiful blend of colonial and victorian homes and buildings, along with little garden like "squares" that are scattered throughout the city.

This is our favorite restaurant on River Street. You can watch the ships come in, while enjoying the most delicious. Even husband's seafood look appealing.

The most amazing treats can be found inside this wonderful shop. The have every variety of candy, including homemade taffy and gelato. Somehow husband was able to drag me out before I devoured more than my small bag of wonderfully flavored taffy.

Pineapples are the international symbol for hospitality, which is more than fitting for this wonderful place.

I was fascinated by the Spanish moss covered trees. I kept pointing it out to husband, for which he replied "I grew up in Florida and Georgia". Snob.

Am I back in Europe?

I spy a guy painting while on a dangerously narrow ledge. What was even scarier was the almost completely vertical ladder he climbed up to get on said ledge.

If I didn't turn into such a monster in the heat, I would be packed and moving to Savannah. Actually it is so wonderful, it might actually be worth the humid 100 degree weather. And for me-- the lover of all things cold--that is saying something.

Saturday was our first anniversary. To be honest I was a bit grumpy with husband, and had every intention of moping around in my room all day. But who can stay angry with someone who gets up early and creates this just for you...

He was so proud of himself too. He explained exactly how he created his masterpiece and why, which include this gem : "I was only going to put up a few balloons, but then I thought you would put up more, and then you would take pictures and blog about it." Oh and got the bread because he wanted to take me out to breakfast, but knew I wasn't feeling well, so he offered to cook it instead.

In the end I just couldn't pass up Flying Biscuit. It's our happy place. So I got out of my pajamas and we headed to the land of raspberry sauce covered french toast, rosemary dusted potatoes, and chicken sausage. mmmm. I want to go there right now!

We finished the day with a movie (only because we had gift cards-- $22 for us both to go to the movies is beyond ridiculous). And then we stopped at Gigi's Cupcakes, which just opened up near us. I of course got their version of funfetti and husband got chocolate-- quite fitting since our wedding cake was funfetti and german chocolate! And since we didn't get to save the top of our cake to eat on our anniversary, it was perfect-- plus we got to eat fresh cake that hadn't been in a freezer for a year!

Minus my grumpiness, it turned out to be a pretty wonderful day!

Oreos make everything better.

I saw this recipe via pinterest and I just had to try it. Michael's grandparents anniversary party gave me the perfect excuse. But instead of being awesome and making mine from scratch, I used Pillsbury cake mix. And I used strawberry... to give it that chocolate covered strawberry combination. I think next time I'll stick with vanilla cake-- just because it looks prettier. Either way, these cupcakes were a huge hit at the party. They were unbelievably easy to make too! Happy baking!

I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful dad. He has always done his best to provide for our family, and make sure we had all the opportunities to succeed. No matter what crazy hours he worked as a paramedic, he never missed our events.

I love that my dad can see the good in all people, all situations, and in all mistakes. He finds beauty wherever he goes.

He loves being the center of attention, but he loves making others feel special too.

He forgives and forgets and lives in the present.

He has shown us that hard work and determination pays off.

He sends me picture messages of Chubbs whenever I am feeling homesick.

But I think what I love most about my dad, is his unwavering optimism. (Unfortunately I did not inherit that trait.) No matter what the situation, he can always see the good in it. When I made some mistakes as a college freshman, he was there to help pick up the pieces. And as I held onto guilt and regret, he helped me to learn from and laugh at my mistakes.

I love my dad more than anything, and am so thankful to my heavenly father for giving me such a great one here on earth.

Husband and I will drive all over town at midnight for a one...

Our adventure began with a commercial that came on while we were laying in bed. I revealed that I had never had a klondike bar, and husband thought this was ridiculous. So he got up put his shoes on and said that we were going to get some.

I was feeling spontaneous so I agreed. Turns out nothing is open at midnight: not Walmart, not the grocery store, and QT and CVS did not carry them. We finally gave up once we go to our second QT, but by then our sweet tooths were screaming! So we settled for shakes from this awesome machine.

My strawberry milkshake reassured me that I had made the right choice.

A couple days later we finally made a trip to the grocery store to quench my Klondike bar curiosity. And let me tell you, I was not dissapointed! yum.

So our little Sally got adopted today. I met the parents a couple weeks ago and they fell in love instantly, but they were going on vacation so they couldn't adopt her until today. The dad came this morning while the mom was home getting ready to surprise their kids.

I was really worried that I was going to be an emotional mess having to say goodbye to our little girl. Especially because she is our first foster, and we have been through a lot with her. She was traumatized and scared when we first got her, and has had some anxiety problems. But seeing her grow and warm up into a normal dog has been amazing. I was amazingly calm and ok today when she hopped in the car and left. I think it is because the family is absolutely perfect. They are the sweetest people and love our little Sally so much already! And it sounds like Sally Jo is already making herself at home!

I really hope everything works out, and that we can foster another puppy soon. I've got to get working on my puppy eyes for husband! xoxo

p.s They posted a video on facebook of the "surprise" and the kids were so excited! I literally cried I was so happy.

Wedding favors are the best.

I love everything about weddings. And I love my job because it gives me an opportunity to see a lot of them. It is so much fun to see all the different ways people celebrate such a wonderful occasion. The dresses, the decor, the food, and the people. But the best part is seeing the bride and groom so much in love! But I also love my job because sometimes we get to take home an extra wedding favor or center piece.

I loved how they mixed the Jewish (bride) and Indian (groom) cultures together for this wedding. They did an amazing job integrating the ceremony, food, and even the dancing to represent both. Oh and Indians are A-mazing dancers! I wished I was a guest and not working the event.

This was inside, and filled with gold jordan almonds... I use it as a candle holder now.

Today was kind of poopy. Michael got home last last night, which meant I didn't get much sleep before it was time to get up for work. Then my contacts felt like they were poking my eyes out all day thanks whatever decided to bloom today. It was also about 100 degrees and humid today (and I was supposed to be born a penguin--so basically I almost died). And I was so not in the mood to work today.

So I came home turned on the disney channel and got into my new pajamas that I tie-dyed with my little sister in law. {it's a failed attempt at a snow cone}

Made some rice krispy treats using this new recipe. And then Sally and I ate our weight in them.

Oh and I have created a little mini sugar monster like myself. She has been staring at me and trying to get me to follow her to the kitchen for the past half hour.

Moral of this story. There is no bad day a little disney, sugar, and puppies can't cure. bisous, Abby

On Saturday Michael's extended family got together to celebrate his grandparents 50th anniversary. The party was held at Williamson's Brothers bbq in Canton, Georgia. I can check Texas, Alabama, and now Georgia bbq off of my list. {I know I know I need to get loftier goals for my life} Oh, and I also got to try okra and fried green tomatoes... after I gave it a weird look first. They were surprisingly not awful.

Yes I did have a hot dog for lunch, and yes it was amazing. I am not ashamed. Oh and the verdict... I think I still like restaurant in Dallas the best.

While hanging out at Michael's aunt and uncles up in Canton, my little sister-in-law runs in the house screaming "there are piggies in the front yard."I obviously think she is kidding, but she insists I come see.

Turns out she wasn't lying. There were actually two very large and hairy pigs running around the neighborhood. They were so cute and quite funny, and it took two large policemen and animal control to finally catch them.

Oatmeal cookies that will change your life

...as in they are so delicious that you will make them everyday and gain 100lbs. Ok that is an exaggeration, but they are seriously good. This is a recipe from Michael's aunt Katy. I first made them to take on our road trip, and then I made them again the next week... twice. shameful I know! But seriously, even out foster puppy is addicted. Ever time the timer went off, she would run to the kitchen and wait for her cookie. And who can resist that face? Not me, that is for sure.

Oatmeal Cookies

*1 cup of butter

*1 cup of shortening

*2 cups of brown sugar

*4 eggs

*2 teaspoons of vanilla

*4 cups of flour

*5 cups of oatmeal

* 2 teaspoons of salt

*2 teaspoons of baking soda

* I also like to add a little bit or a lot of pumpkin pie spice for extra flavor, or white chocolate chips!

Cream sugars, butter, and shortening. Then add eggs and vanilla. In a separate bowl mix together flour, salt, and soda. Then alternate adding flour mixture and oatmeal, ending with flour. Drop by spoonfuls on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes (I did mine for 9 because I like them really soft). Enjoy!

The first time we met was the summer of 2006 on a senior trip with my French class to Europe. I fell in love. I fell in love hard. But it could not be. We met again a few years later when I studied in Aix, but again our affair had to be short. And then I got this great news:

Yes I am in love with an ice cream bar. You can laugh now, but once you try one you will totally understand. They have this one that is have ice cream bar/half ice cream sandwich. Best of both worlds. And the white chocolate one isn't so bad either. I am definitely going to the store tomorrow to go get one :) Oh and check out their little short films here.

Adventures in Peach Town: fried chicken

I have a confession.. I am not a big fan of fried chicken, a southern staple. I have been given some pretty confused and appalled looks when I admitted that I didn't really like chick-fil-a. I guess those are fighting words here in Atlanta, that and the fact that my family are Pepsi and not Coke people. {shhhh... don't tell anyone}

{I know.. soo attractive. hahaha}

But.... I did find one thing that might get me to a fried chicken place. Zaxby's cake batter milk shake. Sooo delicious! It's a good thing that place is expensive or I would be 1,000 lbs. by now. It is literally happiness in a cup. yum.

Adventures in Peach Town: bar-b-que

I know what you are thinking, another post about bbq? Let me explain. Our delicious lunch on Saturday left me craving it hard core. So, Michael decided to take me to the Dreamland for dinner to try "southern style bbq" as our waitress called it. I had no idea that each state had its own different bar-b-que, but from what I gathered it sounds like it might be a serious thing here in the south.

Apparently the restaurant we went to was Alabama style, and it really was different. I kind of want to try the rest so I can decide which one I like best. So far I like the resturant in Texas better... but Dreamland does make this amazing banana pudding-- which I had never really eaten until I moved here. It was also doubly delicious because the manager gave it to us for free along with a discount because husband worked there in high school.

So does anyone have any suggestions for bar-b-que places around the country that are a must visit?

After the wedding on Saturday we were all treated to some authentic Texas bbq. I thought it added such a fun personal touch to the whole event. It was the cutest restaurant too, and absolutely delicious! I wish we had one here so I could go all the time.... actually maybe it's a good thing we don't have one here, because I would go all the time. :)

I really loved our little trip to Dallas and wish we could have stayed a little longer. I have never met nicer people in my whole life. Great food, nice people, and lovely weather--why would I want to leave? Thank you Byron and Tessa for having such a wonderful wedding!
